“This is another winter project. I tend to paint still life paintings in the winter when it’s inconvenient to paint landscapes outside. So I have my little cactuses indoors, and a blooming amaryllis - all winter things. Plus I grew this ridiculous squash - it was a garden volunteer, I really didn’t know what it was - but it was some sort of enormous butternut squash like thing - we had a lot of them. I composted many, but we ate some and they weren’t bad! The creamy colored fabric is silk and what a joy that is to paint. This painting is a little bit strange, I am aware! But it’s beloved and will be great in someone’s dining room I think.” - Sarah
