“Some days out painting are funny. This day I went to a paint out at a beautiful place on the Oregon Coast. There was a botanical garden, views of the ocean, trees - tons of great stuff, but I was not finding inspiration until I looked at the sun on some rocks on the beach. So I made two paintings of rocks and they’re both some of my favorite pieces I’ve ever made. While I painted I was listening to a great book The Art of Rivalry by art historian Sebastian Smee. I listened to it obsessively - on the drive to the paint out, in the Air bnb at night, while painting etc. It is still one of the the best art history books I’ve ever read.” - Sarah
