“I made this piece to go with other food related paintings I made for Smithfields Restaurant - a very special restaurant that closed as the pandemic started. Look for the stripes in some of the other paintings I made for Smithfields - you can see them in my portfolio here. One of the larger meat pieces had sold and I didn’t have the heart to paint raw meat in the studio again. I’m always dealing with health issues, so I sort of dryly titled this Healthy Food with Stripes, because squash is one thing I can easily eat. Plus it’s just fun to paint them. Their shapes are wonderful and they last a long time, so I can take forever to paint it. Tracking stripes along the cloth folds are fun to paint as well. I also LOVE these 70’s colors. Neutrals and earth colors are kind of a theme and ongoing obsession. I also REALLY REALLY liked how the squash stripes echo the cloth stripes.” - Sarah
